EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT
Assessment of morbidity patterns across the population of the wider West Attica area.

A comprehensive epidemiological and environmental risk assessment to protect the health of workers and residents in the West Attica solid waste management area and inform evidence-based policy action.
The Challenge
The operational activities of solid waste management facilities in West Attica — including storage, processing, recycling, and disposal — pose potential health and environmental risks for both employees and the surrounding communities. Systematic evidence on the health burden and environmental exposure in the area was lacking, limiting the ability of authorities to implement targeted protective measures.
Our Approach
We conducted a comprehensive assessment combining epidemiological analysis of population morbidity, environmental risk mapping of the Western Attica area, and a thorough review of the relevant national and EU regulatory framework. Our work produced an objective evidence base for decision-making, together with integrated policy proposals to minimize environmental disturbance and improve health conditions for workers and local residents.
